Governor Newsom released the May Budget Revision on May 14, 2020. The revised budget for California calls for the elimination of funding for the critically important Community Based Adult Services (CBAS) \/ Adult Day Health Care (ADHC) program effective January 1, 2021 (As of June 1, 2020; however, it is possible that the program could be eliminated starting July 1, 2020). CBAS\/ADHC is an essential health program that protects the very people who are at most risk from COVID-19 because of their age and underlying health conditions.<\/p>\n

CBAS offers services to eligible older adults and\/or adults with disabilities to restore or maintain their optimal capacity for self-care and delay or prevent inappropriate or personally undesirable institutionalization.<\/p>\n

CBAS services include:<\/p>\n

\n
• an individual assessment.<\/li>\n
• professional nursing services.<\/li>\n
• physical, occupational and speech therapies.<\/li>\n
• mental health services.<\/li>\n
• therapeutic activities.<\/li>\n
• social services.<\/li>\n
• personal care.<\/li>\n
• a meal.<\/li>\n
• nutritional counseling.<\/li>\n
• xtransportation to and from the participant\u2019s residence and the CBAS center.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

  Eliminating CBAS would affect ALL generations. As the economy opens, families will need CBAS to provide affordable options to ensure that their loved ones are safe and protected while they work.\u00a0 How do you expect caregivers to work if they cannot afford adequate care\/supervision for loved ones if these programs are gone?<\/p>\n

  If CBAS disappears, there is no replacement program, and it will not recover. There will be one less option for desperate families and seniors.<\/p>\n
